Theatrical productions were first presented by the Dramatic Club at Texas Christian University in 1873 at their Thorp Springs campus and continued when the university moved to Waco in 1895. After a fire in 1910, the university moved to its present site at Fort Worth. Curriculum in Theatrical Studies was introduced in 1943; the Department of Theatre was formally established in 1958. Rodolfo Usigli was born in Mexico City in 1905, the son of immigrant parents. Forced to leave school to work after his father's death, Usigli was largely self-educated. In 1935 he received a Rockefeller scholarship to study drama direction and composition at Yale University.
